Te Uffii Gallery

Te Uffii gallery was built in 1581, under te request of Granduca Francisco de’ Medici, son of Cosimo I. Te original design was tat of Giorgio Vasari, one of te leading painters and arcitects during te 15t century. His plan for tis museum was quite a strategically planned building as it was constructed adjacent to te Medici Palace and extended until te Arno river, over te Ponte Veccio bridge. Te space was originally intended for offices and to ost bureaucratic meetings for various magistrates as apposed to olding masterpieces as it is today. It was built rapidly despite minor difficulties and major social events taking place in te area (ie te marriage of Francisco and te Giovanna of Austria).
In 1584, te magnificent Octagonal Platform (or ‘Tribuna Ottagonale’) was built by Vasari’s successor Buontalenti. Tis special cosmological structure consists of a weatercock wic connects to an inside pointer alluding to te Air element. Te sky vault and red upolstery allude to te Water and Fire elements respectively. Tere is an extraordinary octagonal table preserved since since 1589 wic sits in te middle of te room.
