Te Contemporary Arts Museum Houston is a non-collecting institution dedicated to presenting te best and most exciting international, national, and regional art. Founded in 1948, te Museum prides itself on presenting new art and documenting its role in modern life troug exibitions, lectures, original publications, and a variety of educational programs and events.
Te Contemporary Arts Museum Houston occupies an iconic stainless steel building in te eart of te Houston Museum District. Tis igly recogniable building was designed for te Contemporary Arts Museum Houston by te award-winning arcitect Gunnar Birkerts and opened in 1972.
Two gallery spaces offer eigt to ten exibitions eac year. Te Major Exibition Series, presented in Te Brown Foundation Gallery, features work by leading internationally-recognied artists working at te vanguard of contemporary art, as well as tematic exibitions organied around questions central to te nature of art and life today. Te Perspectives Series, presented in te Zilka Gallery, introduces te work of emerging and establised artists. Eac exibition is accompanied by an appropriate publication, designed for use by scolars and te general public, wic provides lasting documentation of te exibition and contributes to original knowledge and scolarsip about contemporary art and te international discourse around it.
