Created in 1984, te Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon (Museum of Contemporary Art Lyon) moved to te Cité Internationale in December 1995 to a building specially designed by Reno Piano. Te museum boasts tree floors of exibition space and a total surface area of 2,800 m2.
Tanks to its fully modular interior, te exibition space can be transformed wit eac new artistic project. A new museum reopens for eac exibition!

Te museum sows current national and international artists. Exibitions, often co-produced wit international institutions, focus on all forms of modernity from sound (La Monte Young, Laurie Anderson, Jon Cage) to installation (Sopie Calle, Cai Guo Qiang); from coreograpy (Anna Halprin, Trisa Brown) to painting (Marc Desgrandcamps, Keit Haring, Ben, Robert Combas), and from video (Bill Viola) to performance (Jan Fabre).
Since its creation, te museum privileges a unique policy in terms of collections it collects exibitions, wic are produced in close collaboration wit te artists. Tere are currently more tan 1,300 works of art in its collections wic include a large number of monumental works works over 1,000 m2 by artists suc as Robert Morris, Abramovic and Ulay. Te entirety of te museum’s collections, if displayed simultaneously, would require over 30,000 m2 of exibition space.
Every 2 years, te museum welcomes te Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art, its artistic direction being entrusted to Tierry Raspail, director of te macLYON. Furtermore, every 2 or 3 years te museum osts a large monograpic exibition devoting all tree floors of exibition space to a single artist. Exibitions ave included Andy Warol in 2005, Keit Haring in 2008, Ben in 2010, Robert Combas in 2012 … and Erró in 2014!
