WhiteBox Art Center was established in October 2009, located in the core area of Beijing’s 798 Art Zone, with nearly 1,200 square meters of flexible exhibition space. The venue was redesigned and renovated from a Bauhaus-style factory originally built with assistance from East Germany. WhiteBox Art Center has consistently focused on curating exhibitions, conducting case studies, promoting collections, and facilitating public dissemination of Chinese contemporary art. It pays close attention to domestic and international developments and the latest trends in contemporary art, fosters exchanges between Chinese contemporary art and the global scene, and explores new paths for the sustainable development of the contemporary art system.Since its opening in 2009, WhiteBox Art Center has collaborated with renowned curators from China and abroad to continuously launch experimental projects dedicate to contemporary art. It has held over 200 large-scale solo and group exhibitions for nearly 200 prominent artists like Alicja Kwade, David Schnell, Matthias Weische, Nikola Dimitrov, Santiago Ydanez, Lee Nam Lee，He Yunchang, Wang Qingsong, Ma Luming, Song yonghong, Shi Jinsong, Shen Shaomin, Miao Xiaochun, Yan Bing, Qin Ga, Jiao Xingtao, Chen Wenji, Liang Shaoji, Richard Lin, Li huasheng, Qiu Shihua, Qin Yifeng, Song Dong, Hong Hao, Liu Jianhua, Tan Ping, Ma Shuqing, Xu Xiaoguo, Gu Xiaoping, Li Xiangyang, Zhou Yangming, Chen Kun, Lv Shangchuan, Liu Xuguang, Feng Lianghong, Wu Wei, Yan Lei etc. from China, Europe, the United States, South Korea, Japan, and other countries, establishing itself as a significant platform for the visibility of both Chinese and international contemporary artists.On the occasion of its 16th anniversary, we announce the consolidation of its previous divisions—contemporary art, public art, and art design—under the new unified name: WHITEBOX ART CENTER. We remain committed to tracking the development of modernity and conceptual art within the context of Chinese contemporary art, while deeply engaging with and promoting the latest practices and creations of artists from China and abroad.
