Fang Zhu and Echo Liu explore human-environment connection through life structure and dwelling traces.

By Curator Cai Er
"Practice" here extends beyond the mere repetition of skill, pointing instead to a sta- te of mind that actively challenges habitual experience and seeks renewal within the familiar. "Reverse," in today's context, is no longer a simple gesture but a method th- at must be continuously trained and internalized as instinct. It means casting an ear- nest gaze and maintaining openness toward those overlooked, silent, and unconve- ntional dimensions. This two-person exhibition presents precisely the "reverse pract- ice" undertaken by artists Fang Zhu and Liu Yucen-two distinct, yet mutually reflecti- ve paths, one turning inward, the other extending outward.
The mechanism of perception, rather than emotion itself, serves as the primary latit- ude through which creators connect with the world. Starting from the two dimensions of "Methodology of Life's Structure" and "Traces of Dwelling," Fang Zhu and Echo Liu jointly point to the constantly constructed and redefined relationship between "hum- an" and "environment." Here, the "human" is both an individual of embodied experie- nce, a humanized object, and even a symbolic existence of people across different ti- mes and spaces. The "environment" is not merely physical space but also a site of lin kage, a challenge and proposition awaiting our direct confrontation and dialogue.
