This group exhibition “Art Beyond Borders” aims to construct a bidirectional empowering dialogue system between the immersive experience of physical space and the instantaneous interactions offered by live broadcasting. The exhibition will provide daily live broadcasts that trace the trajectories of the works’ creation, exposing the “unfinished states” behind the works and questioning the traditional practice of showcasing only perfect results.
综合编辑:teamARThing现场摄影:Fiona致谢:工作室画廊On March 1, 2025, Studio Gallery will launch the group exhibition “Art Beyond Borders,” a practice that advocates for the “transparency of art production.” This exhibition aims to construct a bidirectional empowering dialogue system between the immersive experience of physical space and the instantaneous interactions offered by live broadcasting. When Exhibitions Are More Than Just “Showcases”In an industry where the norm is “opening immediately followed by closing,” many exhibitions have devolved into polished but silent displays of merchandise. “Art Beyond Borders” chooses to swim against the tide: we maintain the professional realm of physical space while refusing to reduce the exhibition to a static endpoint. Each artwork in the gallery serves as a starting point for dynamic narratives, with the exhibition providing daily live broadcasts that trace the trajectories of the works’ creation—perhaps showcasing dozens of discarded sketches behind a piece, or the countless revisions a sculpture underwent before its final form, or the costs of trial and error in material experimentation. This exposure of “unfinished states” not only demystifies artistic creation but also questions the traditional practice of showcasing only perfect results.Small Scale as a Slice: Archiving the Recent States of ArtistsThe exhibition focuses on new works from over a dozen artists who have closely collaborated with Studio Gallery over the past two years. These works represent not just artistic achievements but also “traces of action” as these artists navigate the complexities of contemporary reality. The constraint of scale reflects a demand for creative density—works are not limited by “exhibition space,” and smaller pieces can sometimes offer artists more room for self-examination and experimentation with challenging materials and new methods. From acrylic spray painting to collage and embroidery; from conceptual spaces to physical ones, from painting to sculpture, and from literature to film to reality—each piece embodies a unique methodology through which the artist engages with the zeitgeist. During the exhibition, we will invite artists to enter the live studio to deconstruct their works in “creator logs,” revealing drafts and the emotional landscapes behind the creations, retracing the authentic context of the creative process, and even disclosing lists of materials in their collections. The juxtaposition of these “imperfect materials” with the completed works in the gallery constructs a more nuanced understanding of the inherent value of the artworks.Physical Space: An Incompressible Physical RealityWhile live streaming can transcend spatial limitations, we remain committed to the professionalism of physical exhibitions: the gallery will transform its space according to each artist’s works through color, light, and spatial layering, ensuring the best visual experience for visitors. The live broadcast will not artificially beautify these professional logics; instead, it will capture the reality on-site with high-definition cameras, allowing online audiences to simultaneously experience the thoughts of in-person viewers regarding “wall whitespace and visual breathing.”A Resonance of Diverse CommentaryThe exhibition features an experimental “bullet screen curator” initiative: during daily live broadcasts, in addition to regular discussions with artists and scholars, we will invite independent commentators, social media influencers, art school students, and even amateur observers of various backgrounds to share their intuitive interpretations on camera. These grassroots commentaries will run parallel to traditional authoritative narratives and will be documented in writing for inclusion in the exhibition catalog, creating multiple annotations for the works. After the exhibition, audiences can follow the gallery’s periodic publications to understand the contentious discussions surrounding the works from different groups—shifting the power of art evaluation from a one-way output to a networked dialogue.“Art Beyond Borders” does not create illusions; it builds scaffolding. When every link in the art production chain withstands the scrutiny of live cameras, we may be able to redefine what we call the “spark of art” as it emerges from the friction between controlled professionalism and uncontrollable authenticity. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Live broadcasts will coincide with gallery hoursArtist creator logs will be live-streamed every Tuesday at 3:00 PMDiverse commentary discussions will take place every Saturday at 3:00 PMStudio Gallery
