Halcyon Gallery is honored to announce the opening of Lin Youmin’s latest solo exhibition “Eidos” from December 19, 2025 to January 17, 2026.

Lin Youmin’s early life—ordination, deep study of Buddhist philosophy, and the crafting of sacred images—seemed to predestine him for a path rooted in traditional art. Yet in 2019, he stepped away from this trajectory and turned decisively toward contemporary sculpture. Employing digital modeling, 3D printing, and other modern techniques, he introduces measured abstraction and transformation into bronze and stainless steel, imbuing them with a quiet Zen sensibility suited to the aesthetics of our time. This shift marked not a break from tradition, but an activation of classical Eastern wisdom through contemporary form.

In this exhibition, Lin reinterprets ancient philosophical thought within a modern visual framework, drawing inspiration from the intellectual richness of the Axial Age. The ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism provide the conceptual ground for his work, while his artistic stance echoes Platonic belief in art as the embodiment of ideals. His sculptures move between tradition and contemporaneity, seeking a point of equilibrium where the two can transform one another.

Through these silent forms, viewers are invited to encounter Lin Youmin’s “Eidos”—at once the logic of his art, and the contemplation of a life shaped by thought, practice, and transformation.
